Lead Machine Learning Engineer

Zalando is looking for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer on a 12-month contract to drive the design and delivery of next-generation recommendation models for our fashion discovery platform. You will lead a team of four ML engineers, setting technical direction and owning model performance from experimentation through to production.

You will design A/B testing frameworks, implement feature pipelines using Spark and Flink, and collaborate with applied scientists to translate research into robust production systems. Experience leading ML teams and shipping models at scale (millions of daily users) is required.

This is a remote-first contract open to candidates based in the EU. You will be expected to visit the Berlin headquarters once per quarter. Strong communication skills in English are essential; German is not required.
